Annual overnight for our newer scouts. A great opportunity to work on rank advancement requirements. A fun time was had by all. Thank you Mr. Nadareski for leading the boys on Plants & Wildlife. 2015 Canoe Trek.
Day 1: Started at Long Lake, stayed at Rodney Point. Day 2: Paddled the Raquette River, grueling portage, stayed near Raquette Falls. Day 3: Service project cleaning campsites, caught fish for dinner, camped on Raquette River. Day 4: Long paddle and portage over Indian Carry, camped on Buck Island. Day 5: Fished for dinner, rope swing, took naps, swam and relaxed after 50+ miles of canoeing and portaging gear. Day 6: Paddled a few miles to Fish Creek Campground, headed to Golden Corral for a lunch after a great trip.
About 75 boys competed. Congratulations to Troop 172 -- two of our teams, both divisions, came in 2nd Place! Thanks to Mr. Yellin, Mr. Benenati and Mr. Longbotham for their time and dedication that went into planning and managing the event.
The Agatha A. Durland Scout Reservation (previously Clear Lake Scout Reservation) in Putnam County, has 1,400 acres of largely undeveloped land with many campsites and miles of hiking trails. Two lakes offer boating and swimming opportunities in season.
